"Breaking news" is my depiction of the cacophony of voices that erupted on 24 June 2022, when most of the US woke up to learn that the Supreme Court had sent us back to when I was in grade school.

The day before, I had recorded two improvs with the Moog Mavis that I wasn't quite sure I would be able to do anything with. As I was listening to them again, I thought maybe I should chop them up and layer the sections atop one another. So that's what I did.

I recorded "What do we do now that we're here" earlier in the week. It felt like an appropriate piece to pair with "Breaking news"—every single should have a b-side, after all.

The photo I used for the cover is of the same broken bowl shown on the cover of Gemini Retrograde. Whereas that original photo showed the main part of the bowl, this one shows the two sections that broke off.
