about

Most of the pieces in this collection were recorded using the Soma Ether, which, in a way, can be thought of almost as a radio that is not tuned to any particular station. Its two controls are intensity and volume; using it is like putting a transistor radio next to stuff to see how it is affected.

I used "ether" in several of the titles. For a lot of people born during the 20th Century, it's kind of a nostalgic word (oddly romantic even); some will remember that it used to be used as anesthetic, while others will remember Bugs Bunny and the Evil Scientist moving dreamily through their chase scene after being exposed to the fumes from a broken bottle of the stuff.

Because of that, I had ether's association with sleep in mind at the time I came up with the titles of these pieces.

The only piece not using Ether in some way is "Océan quantique", which was made using Soma's Quantum Ocean binaural noise generator, with the Soma Pipe as the effects processor. (I should also note that I apparently recorded that piece at 48 kHz/24-bit, so that's how it appears here.)
